Antibiotics useful of human body?
Antibiotics
inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungus vand parasites. In the beginning, the
antibiotics were isolated from living organisms. For example, penicillin was
isolated from the fungus penicillium and streptomycin from the bacteria Streptomyces.
The more modern antibiotics are being chemically synthesised. There are few or
no side effects from antibiotcs and at the same time they are highly effective.
The antibiotics to be used a particular infection depends on three factors: the
location of the infection in the body, the ability of the antibiotic to reach
the site of infection and its effectiveness in overcoming the infection. An antibiotic
can cure the infection in two ways. It can directly destroy the bacteria
causing the infection or it can prevent the bacteria from multiplying further. The
antibiotics can be administered topically, orally or intravenously. They are
administered topically in the case of eye or skin infections. In case of a
serve infection the antibiotics are administered intravenously.
