‘Father of microscopy’
anton von leeuwehoek made microscope
Anton von leeuwenhoek was the first person to observe blood,
insects etc., under a simple microscope. He described cells and bacteria as
seen under a microscope. His microscope was a simple device that used only one
lens. The body of the microscope was made of a rass plate. The lens was mounted
on a tiny hole in the plate. Leeuwenhoek mounted the specimen on a pin in front
of the lens. The microscope was 3-4 inches long. It looked like a modern day
magnifying lens. He made several pioneering studies in the field of the life
science using this microscope and made 500 microscope during his lifetime. The modern
microscope is a very sophisticated instrument that can magnify and give very
sharp images. It is known as the compound microscope and uses three lenses: the
objective, the eyepiece and the field lens.
