Why is blood red in colour?
Blood that flows through our body carries oxygen and nutrients to all parts of our body. It also carries carbon dioxide and waste from the cell. Blood fights infection and helps in maintaining the body temperature. Blood is made of plasma, red blood corpuscles (RBC), white blood corpuscles (WBC) and platelets. The plasma is a clear watery liquid that contain dissolved salts, nutrients, gases, albumin, fibrogen, wastes and hormone. Platelets are small colourless blood cells that help in clotting the blood . WBCs helps the body to fight infection and disease. The blood gets its colour from the RBCs, the main component of blood. There are almost 20-30 trillion RBCs in the blood. The RBC contains the protein haemoglobin that transport oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body. The haemoglobin also are carries carbon dioxide from the cells to the lungs.
