Fruits are an important part of a plant
because they contain the seeds of a plant. The colour, texture and size of
different fruits are different. The fruits protect the seeds and help in the
dispersal of the seed . Dehiscent fruit open naturally
to shed their
seeds on ripening. The three different
types of dehiscent seeds are legumes, follicles and capsules. Peas and peanuts
are legumes, milkweed is a follicles and poppy and mustard are capsules. Indehiscent
seeds do not open naturally to shed their seeds on ripening. Achene, samara,
nut, caryopsis and schizocarp are types of indehiscent fruit. Strawberry is an
achene, elms and maple are samara, coconut is a nut, wheat, barley and maize are
caryopsis and carrot is a schizocarp.
