Why do stars appear to twinkle ?

Why do  stars appear to twinkle ?

Why Do Stars Twinkle? - YouTube

Why do stars appear to twinkle in the night sky? |

Stars are extremely large gaseous bodies found in the universe. They emit enormous amounts of light and other forms of energy.  This  enormous  amounts  of energy comes from the nuclear fusion reaction taking place in them. The nearest star to our earth is the sun.  Billion  of stars can be observed in the night sky. When observed they appear  to twinkle. The light emitted by the stars has to pass through the atmosphere before it reaches us. While passing through the various layers the light is bent. This makes the light to flicker. Thus , for scientific observation scientists observe stars from the top of a mountain. This is because as we go high the air becomes thin and it cause the twinkling effects to reduce.
