Statue Of Liberty - 7 Wonders

The statue of liberty stands on the Liberty Island, New York. It symbolises liberation from oppression and tyranny. The people of France   gifted the Statue to the people of the United State in recognition of the friendship established during the America revolution. The statue is also known as Lady Liberty or Liberty Enlightening the World. It is the statue of a woman in a robe holding aloft a torch in her right hand symbolizing the light of freedom. In her left hand is a tablet bearing the words JULY IV MDCCLXXVI, ie.,  4th July 1776, the date of American Independence. Broken chains lie at her feet symbolising freedom. The height of the statue is 93m from the ground to the tip of the torch. It has 16 powerful lamps arranged around the rim of the torch which glow at night.

The lean of the leaning tower of tower of Pisa is because of the weak foundation and unstable subsoil. The site of the tower was a large river delta in the past. The architects and builders of the tower were however unaware of this fact. They did not know that the soil was a mixture of sand, clay and water, which was unsuitable for large buildings. The lean was noticed for the first time during the construction of the third floor in A.D. 1178. During the construction of the next three floors, the architects tried to adjust the lean. This gave the tower a slight banana shape and the tower began leaning towards south in A.D. 1272. Architects tried to correct the north side and six steps on the south side at the bell tower. This however, gave the tower a slight S-shape. Today, gave the tower leans about 5.5 degree towards south.
